This is a video art project supported by the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, realized in the period from August to December 2011. A 30-minutes work focused on different facts from Hans Bellmer's life.
The video doesn't try to recreate the artist’s biography, however, it contains many references to the time spent by Bellmer in Katowice (from his date of birth 1902 until his departure in 1922). The aim of this video is to persuade the vievers into a deeper interest in the work of the artist and his association with Katowice, as well as to document the contemporary image of Katowice and its inhabitants.
There are three main subjects of ths video:
CITY
Katowice as the fundaments of the artist’s inspirations. The time of the development of industries, the clash of constructivism, a brutal industrialism and the surrealist movement. Today – the post-industrial background for social transformations. An introduction with a strong accent put on the industrial past of the city and its surroundings.
BODY
The hypothetical relationship between Bellmer and his environment, which may have influenced the subject matter of his work. This section cannot lack the erotic aspect that determined the artist’s work, which surprisingly often has been neglected in many works inspired his work.
DOLL
The costruction of the doll, based on the first forms created by Bellmer. The attempt to formulate a similar artistic activity on the basis of modern materials and media.
